Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung said he saw impressive advancement in the bilateral partnership with Palau during his visit Dec. 18-21 to the Pacific ally.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin led a delegation of representatives from Taiwan’s electronics, green energy, medical and tourism industries to Palau as part of the government’s Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project.
During his stay, Lin met with President Surangel Whipps Jr., Minister of State Gustav Aitaro and other key political figures and tribal leaders. He also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between a Taiwanese firm and the state government of Melekeok to build Palau’s first golf course.
The MOFA said the visit underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing economic and trade ties with Palau and follows Lin’s attendance at the presidential inauguration of Surangel Whipps, Jr. this January as President Lai Ching-te’s special envoy.
According to the ministry, to underscore the importance Palau places on the two-way relationship, Whipps visited Taiwan in May and took part in activities that explored ways to expand bilateral cooperation in tourism, sustainable development and medical care.
The MOFA said that Palau is set to host the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in 2026, and Taiwan is planning an exhibition around the event to share its expertise and show the world how the country is helping advance prosperity in its Pacific allies through cooperation with like-minded partners.
